For the 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO featured in previous Xbox 360 titles, see here.

The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO is a classic GT racing car that appears in Forza Motorsport 5 and all subsequent Forza main titles.

The 250 GTO is a homologation special designed for GT racing and based on the Ferrari 250 GT SWB. It entered the FIA's International Championship for GT Manufacturers from 1962 to 1964, where it dominated the over 2000cc class each year.[1]

After its discontinuation, the 250 GTO has started to climb up in value due to a low production number and its rich motorsport history. As of October 2013, a 250 GTO was sold for $52 million, making it the world's most expensive car to date.[2] Its high value is also reflected in the Forza series, where it is featured with the highest price tag on each title.

Description

Arguably one of the most collectible cars in today's marketplace. With only 33 GTOs originally built, all were designed to be race cars. Powered by the Colombo designed 2953cc V12 engine producing around 300 HP, in a car that weighs under 2000 pounds, with the optimal gearing it is capable of around 174 MPH. Only nine were built as RHD, but every one was slightly unique as all were hand made, and purpose built. The created controversy initially as the racing competition claimed it was a new car while Ferrari argued it was just an update from the earlier homologated 250 GT. Ferrari won the argument and the initial name of 250 GT/Comp became 250 GTO with the "O" for Omologato (Homologation in Italian). In their first race, the 1962 Sebring 12 Hours, they won the GT class then followed it up with a class win at Le Mans and just about every race they entered. In the years to come, Ferrari focused on Formula 1 teams and not GT racing, so the 250 GTO was the end of an era.
