"The Ferrari Dino 246 GT is rightly famous as the Ferrari that wasn’t sold as a Ferrari (it was badged a “Dino,” a brand for sub-V12 cars), and for being named after Enzo Ferrari’s son Alfredo “Dino” Ferrari, who passed away from muscular dystrophy at the age of 24. Without any of that background, however, the Dino could easily stand alone. The 246 GT’s immediate predecessor, the 206, was conservative-minded Ferrari’s first mid-engine road car and the beginning of a trend that even the reluctant Enzo couldn’t stifle—particularly with styling partner Pininfarina pushing him in that direction (Pininfarina also penned the Dino’s graceful lines). It was also the first Ferrari to use less than 12 cylinders. In the 246 GT’s case, it’s a sweet-sounding V6 that was Dino’s legacy—before Dino passed away, he worked with famed engineer Vittorio Jano on the advanced engine that would ultimately be produced in various forms for almost 40 years. Because the 246 GT was significantly smaller and lighter than other Ferrari models, the 2.4-liter motor’s 195 horsepower makes the baby Ferrari fairly quick. However, a straight line isn’t the best way to experience the 246 GT, because it truly excels is in spirited driving where the mid-engine placement can show off its superior handling characteristics. It won’t take long to understand why Enzo changed his mind about the 246 GT’s layout, and even named it after his beloved son."
—Official description[1]

The 1969 Ferrari Dino 246 GT - abbreviated as "Ferrari Dino" - is a rear-wheel drive sports car by Ferrari.

It appears as standard in every Forza main title, although it was only available as part of the Alpinestars Car Pack in Forza Motorsport 5.

It is featured in Forza Horizon as a Unicorn car and in Forza Horizon 3 as the first Barn Find.

Synopsis[]

The 246 GT - with 24 standing for its displacement in litres and 6 for its cylinder count - is a redesigned variant of the Dino 206 GT. The Dino brand was a short-lived division by Ferrari that was established to sell Ferrari cars with engines featuring less than twelve cylinders in order to avoid possibly dilluting the image of the main brand.

The Dino 246 GT was produced until 1974 and officially claimed to be a commercial success. Its replacement model - the 308 GTB - was no longer offered as a Dino product and was integrated into Ferrari's model lineup.[2]

Drivetrain[]

The Dino 246 GT is powered by a transverly mounted engine with 2.4 litres displacement and three Weber carburetors. It offers 199 hp (148 kW) at 7600 rpm and 165 ft·lb (224 N·m) of torque. Different to its predecessor, the 246 GT's engine is based on a cast iron block instead of an aluminum block.

Platform[]

It adopts the fully independent wishbone suspension design and four-wheel disc brakes from its predecessor, but also uses bodywork made of steel instead of aluminum to save on production costs. Despite a higher overall weight of 2380 lb (1080 kg), it is still one of the lightest Ferrari cars to appear in the Forza series, and with a front weight percentage of 41%, also the second most rear-biased production Ferrari after the 330 P4.[2]
