"When you encounter something as rare and beautiful as a Jaguar D-Type you have to take it all in. Its purposeful front intake and its fluid lines are as functional as they are eye-catching. The Jaguar D-Type represents the height of 1950s technology and is capable of a hair-raising top speed of 170 mph (without seat belts mind you). Overall the D-Type is impressive piece of automotive history."—Official description (Forza Horizon)[1]
The 1956 Jaguar D-Type is a rear-wheel drive sports car by Jaguar.
It appears in the Ultimate Collection release of Forza Motorsport 3 and in all subsequent main series titles.
It was available in Forza Motorsport 5 as part of the Long Beach Booster Pack and appears as a Barn Find in Forza Horizon.
Synopsis[]
The Jaguar D-Type was a classic race car that debuted in 1954 to replace the Jaguar C-Type. As Jaguar intended to continue its success in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans series, the D-Type was designed with various technologies derived from aviation, including its monocoque construction and aerodynamic bodywork that allowed a top speed of at least 170 mph (274 km/h).
The D-Type was successfully entered in Le Mans from 1955 to 1957, when it achieved three consecutive wins.[2] It was replaced by the road-going E-Type in 1961.
Performance[]
In Forza Horizon 3, the D-Type is capable of topping out at 302 mph (486 km/h) after being fully upgraded with a 5.2L V10 engine swap, Twin Turbo conversion, Race transmission with a final drive ratio of 2.76 or similar and an AWD drivetrain for stability. This makes the D-Type the fastest car in the game, as the second fastest car - a fully upgraded Bugatti EB110 Super Sport - hits 284 mph (457 km/h) as maximum.[3]
