Synopsis[]
Local Motors was an American automobile manufacturing company specializing in the manufacture of open-source automobile designs using microfactories. The company was started in 2009 and builds designs of vehicles provided by the online community. Their most well known product was the Rally Fighter, featured in various video games, films and television shows; it is believed to be the first vehicle designed through crowd sourcing. Local Motors later pivoted to the manufacture of autonomous buses; the company shut down on 14 January 2022, with an announcement made by the company's CEO.
