The MINI John Cooper Works GP completed a lap at the Nordschleife in just eight minutes, twenty-three seconds. That’s equivalent to an E46 M3 or R-32 Skyline, so this little guy is no slouch. There are 218 ponies under the hood, driven by a twin-scroll turbocharger, variable valve timing, and direct injection to get things going. Keeping the contact patch optimal is a coil-over suspension system that inverts the front shocks to increase longitudinal and lateral stiffness. There were only 2,000 of these models built and they were all sold in Europe so, for many, Forza games are the only shot they’ll have to experience this one-of-a-kind ride.
The GP is a track-day special of the John Cooper Works that comes with additional engine and chassis upgrades. It was only produced for the 2013 model year and destined for the European market.
In Forza Horizon 3, the Mini John Cooper Works GP is available as a Horizon Edition model variant with a Skills boost and performance upgraded to A class. It is fitted with a 1.6L I4 - Turbo Rally engine swap, AWD drivetrain swap and a series of exterior upgrades.
The Horizon Edition is obtainable upon completing the Join The Party challenge in the Happy AnniversaryForzathon event held from September 22, 2017 to September 27, 2017. Prior to its Forzathon appearance, it could not be obtained by any player but was mentioned in the search option of the Auction House. However, there was one known in existence that was gifted by Turn 10 Studios to a prominent player known as Don Joewon Song.
The Forza Edition a Tier 5 car that is obtainable as a Leagues reward in the Marching Motors March 2018 Season. It is featured with a 25% credits boost and an additional 25% credits boost when racing at Brands Hatch, homologated performance and an exterior similar to the Horizon Edition car in Forza Horizon 3.
Being upgraded with an AWD drivetrain, the Horizon Edition variant only requires 3.6 seconds from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) and has a lower front weight percentage than its stock counterpart, which is 55% instead of 61%. It performs above average in terms of handling due to possessing nimble driving characteristics along with highly capable brakes that rival those from lightweight Extreme Track Toys cars. However, as it is fitted with a stock 1.6L I4 - Turbo Rally swap, the Horizon Edition already tops out at 155 mph (250 km/h), making it a more useful choice for short tracks.
The Mini John Cooper Works GP is available as a Horizon Rental car in Forza Horizon 3.
