"The 911 GT3 RS 4.0 takes the 997 out with a bang. It was so late in the coming that Porsche had to restart production on the model. The result was something special. All 600 RS 4.0 models sold like hot cakes thanks to the car’s amazing performance. The fact is, most GT3 owners take their rides to the track regularly, and the RS 4.0 is the king of GT3s. The 4.0 in the moniker stands for the displacement, which is 0.2 liters larger than the GT3. That displacement comes from a longer stroke and, coupled with enhanced air-flow, titanium connecting rods, and a single-mass flywheel, the RS 4.0 brings 50 more horsepower to the track. The roar of the flat-six is more than enough to encourage hitting the 8,500 rpm redline, but this race-bred brute just loves to scream throughout the powerband. Sure you can drive the GT3 RS 4.0 on the road, but just make sure that road leads to the nearest race circuit just in case."

The 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0, abbreviated as 911 GT3 RS4 '12 in Forza Motorsport 7, is a rear-engined supercar that appears in the Porsche Expansion packs for Forza Horizon 2 and Forza Motorsport 6.

It also appeared in Forza Horizon 3 as a part of the Basket Of Goodies and the Beach Festival Forzathon events, and returned in Forza Motorsport 7 as a Specialty Dealer car.

The GT3 RS 4.0 is a limited production model offered for the 2012 model year. It is based on the 3.8 liter GT3 RS from the 997 generation and comes with a series of performance upgrades, most notably an increase of engine displacement to four liters. Its successor is the 991 generation 911 GT3 RS.

Specifications

Conceived as a lightweight track-focused car, the GT3 RS 4.0 only weighs 2998 lb (1360 kg) and is fitted with numerous body upgrades such as a rear wing and front canards to generate a high amount of downforce, allowing it to stay planted in corners. In Forza Motorsport 7, the GT3 RS 4.0 comes with adjustable front downforce as standard due to a non-removable front splitter provided by the default Race Front Bumper upgrade, but requires players to replace its stock wing to alter rear downforce.

The car's 'Mezger' flat-six engine was bored out to 4 litres and produces 493 hp (368 kW) as a result, making it the most powerful naturally aspirated engine to be offered for the Porsche 997 series. The GT3 RS 4.0 was exclusively offered with a six-speed manual transmission and tops out at more than 200 mph (322 km/h) in every Forza title except Forza Motorsport 7 due to its front splitter.

Performance

The GT3 RS 4.0 launches off the line with very little wheelspin and revs up higher than 9000 rpm. Its rear-engine architecture along with its aerodynamic upgrades give the GT3 RS 4.0 notably sharp steering but also make it less forgiving than other drivetrain layouts due to a higher chance of oversteer. With a standard top speed of at least 200 mph (322 km/h), the GT3 RS 4.0 also performs decently on high-speed tracks.

Trivia

  • The GT3 RS 4.0's engine, named the "4.0L F6" in-game, appears as an engine swap option in Forza Horizon 3 for various Porsche cars, including the Hoonigan Rauh-Welt Begriff Porsche 911 Turbo. Compared to the 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS's engine, it has a higher output at 1072 hp (800 kW) and 704 ft·lb (955 N·m).
