"The first generation MR2 was the last thing the market expected from practical and economical Toyota at the time, but was received well. Since then, the car has built a following that has endured over the years. MR2 stands for “Mid-engined Runabout 2 Seater,” but in the U.S. it is known as “mid-engine rear-wheel-drive two-seater”. The well-balanced and snappy performance took a step into downright exciting with the introduction of the SC, which stands for “super-charged.” The belt driven Roots-type supercharger is actuated by an electromagnetic clutch depending on power demands, increasing fuel economy. The 145 horsepower on board in the 2,500-pound MR2 will bring a smile to any enthusiast’s face. The Mister Two, as it is sometimes affectionately referred to, responds well to upgrades and can easily become a go to car for lobby racing."—Official description[1]
The 1989 Toyota MR2 SC - abbreviated as "Toyota MR2 '89" - is a rear-wheel drive sport compact by Toyota.
It appears in Forza Motorsport 4 and all subsequent Motorsport series titles except Forza Motorsport 7.
It also appears in Forza Horizon 4 since Update 23 and in Forza Horizon 5.
Synopsis[]
Codenamed AW11, the Toyota MR2 SC is a supercharged model of the first generation Toyota MR2 that was produced from 1984 to 1989. It was the first mid-engine production car by a Japanese carmaker.
The MR2 was intended to capitalize on the increasing demand for fuel-efficient cars since the fuel crisis in 1973.[2] Similar to the Pontiac Fiero GT, it attempted to create the "sporty commuter" niche[3] by providing both fuel efficiency from a low-capacity twin-cam engine and a high fun factor provided by a mid-engine chassis.
The MR2 SC debuted for the 1986 model year in Japan and became available in the United States for the 1988 model year. The 1989 model featured in the Forza series is a facelift "Mk1b" model that was introduced in 1987.
Drivetrain[]
As the most powerful model of the W10 MR2, the MR2 SC is powered by a 1.6 liter inline-four that was upgraded with a positive-displacement supercharger and an intercooler. It produces 145 hp (108 kW) and 140 ft·lb (190 N·m) of torque.
Platform[]
The MR2 SC is notable for its compact dimensions, being shorter and lower than the Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex, although its weight of 2620 lb (1188 kg) makes it heavier than most contemporary sport compacts including the last-mentioned Toyota Trueno.
Distinct exterior parts of the MR2 SC include 14 inch alloy wheels, a T-top roof and larger louvres on the engine lid for improved airflow due to the supercharged engine.[4]
