"Who would have ever thought an old Volkswagen van would be worth upwards of $200,000? Today, these little buses are going for incredible sums at auction and even rusting hulks can garner more than the cost of a running, driving Porsche 911. The 21 window De Luxe is by far the most desirable model of “splitties” -- for their split windshield – and will sell for huge sums in nearly any condition. An array of roofside windows lets the sun shine in and offers a beautiful accent to the breadbox form of the classic bus. Pushing the little guy around is a rear-mounted, 1200cc, air-cooled, flat-four. The mighty 36 hp motor will deliver highway speeds, even when full of long-haired hippies following the Grateful Dead, except when climbing hills. Many vans of the era had sayings such as “please just pass” painted on the back and inspired bumper stickers like “NEVER get behind a VW” or “0-60 in 15 Minutes.” The truth is, you don’t have to go fast in a VW Bus to be having a good time, riding or road-tripping in one will make memories that last a lifetime."
—Official description[1]

The 1963 Volkswagen Type 2 De Luxe - abbreviated as "VW Type 2" - is a rear-wheel drive van by Volkswagen.

It appears in Forza Horizon 2 as the second Barn Find and as standard in all subsequent main series titles except for Forza Horizon 3.

Synopsis[]

The Volkswagen Type 2 is Volkswagen's first van design that was produced from 1950 until 1975. Serving both private and commercial customers, the Type 2 was built in a great number of body styles, ranging from van to pickup configurations.

A special body style of the Type 2 is the Deluxe[2], a four-door minibus that can seat up to eight passengers. Also known as the "Samba", it was offered as an upmarket model featuring a fabric sunroof, eight panoramic windows on the roof sides and a two-tone paint.[3] The Forza series also features the Volkswagen Double Cab Pick-Up variant.

Similar to the Volkswagen Beetle, the Type 2 De Luxe is driven by a rear-mounted Volkswagen air-cooled engine with 1493 cc (1.5 liter) displacement, although output is higher than on the Beetle with 50 hp (37 kW) and 82 ft·lb (111 N·m).

It features a Speed Skills boost, an S1 897 Performance Index, an upgrade preset and a 3.8 F6TT engine swap that is unavailable for the standard variant.
